This generation, their lifeline is social media. Even for the older generation, they were taught that you either get social media or be left behind.
I started my social media way back in the early 2000’s. It was not the “in” thing then. But I’ve turned my friends and family to embrace it.
But social media was once a useful medium to connect, has now become a very poisonous medium and tool. And not all are using the same medium – for the “oldies”, it is Facebook and Twitter, for the millennium it is Snapchat, for the narcissistic it’s instagram and tiktok and so on it goes.
Social media has taken what was and is important in life and make those as a hindrance. Majority of the social media has been controlled by media, advertisers, self centred politics, self centered people whose vocabulary consists on ‘i’ or ‘me’.
I was slowly shying away of reading from Facebook. I just used it’s messenger platform. My usual was to read Twitter. For social media, that’s it. I don’t update my LinkedIn, instagram, Facebook, etc.
But now, it has been a week without touching any of that. In fact, I have deactivated my account in Facebook and Twitter. I seldom wished I didn’t but I’ll hold on to not looking for it right now.
My news is not from Facebook or twitter anymore but from RSS feeds. And I’m happy that I can focus on stuff I’d like to work on.
So, here’s to you, who’s thinking about quitting. It is not that bad. Actually, when you get your life, you get back your worth.
